Fall home comfort

Fall is here and many of us are not using either our heating or cooling system. Like most homes if you are not running either system you may have hot, cold or stagnant spots throughout  your home. People ask me how to overcome this. The best way is to turn your thermostat fan setting from "auto" to "on". This will turn just the fan of your furnace on, allowing air to be moved around from the hot or stagnant parts of your home to the other rooms. This will also allow the cooler air from the lower levels of your home to be transfered up to the upper floors. This is a good idea in all homes, unless you have ductwork inside your attic. If your duct is in the attic it will bring the heat off the attic to your living area. In my home I leave the fan setting to on all year long, this keeps the home feeling a little cooler in the summertime, and I usually set it back to auto as soon as the snow comes. Summer is coming to and end!

The heat is almost over, we still have a few more days to enjoy the heat of summer. This is a great time of year to start thinking about your furnace. The best thing any home owner can do is to keep a clean filter inside their furnace. Most filters can be purchased at your local Home Depot, or Lowes, I usually recommend a good pleated filter. Even if the package says it is good for 90 days, be carefull. The longest anyone should leave a 1" pleated filter in is about 4 weeks. If you have a really dirty filter or a strange size, we are happy to track on down for you.

When is the best time to get a tune up?

"When is the best time to get a tune up?" This is a question we get all the time. The answer is annually, as long as it gets cleaned and tuned about the same time every year, it will last for many, many more years. The best way to do it and save money is to join our club membership program, this will cost a minimal amount every month and will get you on the schedule on a regular basis to have one of our techs come out and keep your system factory fresh, year after year. Not only will the club program save your equipment and energy costs, it will also save you money on any repairs, we offer a discount on service for all our club members.  If you just need a quick cleaning,  or a safety inspection and want it done asap, give us a call and we will be happy to come out.  

Insurance for a furnace and air conditioner?

You bet! We offer a new type of insurance for your heating and cooling system that is simple and cost effective. For under $15 per month you get free service calls and free repairs on your entire system. There is a deductible of $70 per repair, no matter the cost. Most repairs are about $400, and can be as high as a few thousand! If you are interested give us a call and we can go over the details.

End of the summer cooling tips.

The hottest days are over for sure, but we still have a long, long, long time to go. Most air conditioners in Utah run until early September. If your air conditioner is struggling to keep up with the long hot days, here are some tips on how to make it run better. The first thing to check is your furnace filter, the average filter should be changed every 6 weeks. Go outside and look at your air conditioning unit. If you see dirt or leafs building up on the outside of the unit this needs to be cleaned off. The best way to do this is to shut off the air conditioner, and spray the outside unit with your hose. Make sure you keep the pressure high enough to remove the debris, but low enough to prevent damaging the fins. If you are not up to the task, we are happy to come get your cooling system factory fresh. We use special acids and washes to get a deep cleaning on your system.
